The definition of “baseline” is the balance between tension and relaxation. This tangible space of balance is where you have the greatest capacity of influence over your physical and metaphysical self.
Much like the “hum” of an electrical power plant, your nervous system hums too and that hum can be measured as a waveform. The peak of that frequency is your active baseline, and the valley is your passive baseline.
The Active and Passive Baseline classes will teach you how to find, feel and work with your baseline empowering you with tools and understanding about how to influence and regulate your nervous system. Meeting your body at this subtle balance between tension and relaxation allows your nervous system to find safety and ease.
Expanding the window of space between your active and passive baselines:
Begin your BodyMind journey towards Self on the “body” side of the Body-Mind bridge with Baseline classes.
In both Active and Passive Baseline classes you will learn the tools and strategies that you will leverage during Mindfulness Practice. While improving your ability to listen to, understand, and work with your body, you will build your toolbox of skills and understanding that you will have at your disposal for life. Many report notable improvements after the first few classes including less pain and stiffness, improved mood and confidence and sense of direction and purpose.

Expanding the window of space between your active and passive baselines:
- Turns down the volume of neural over-activity (protective)
- Turns up the volume of neural under-activity (after all, your body is a balance-seeking tension system)
- Expands the window of adaptability of your nervous system (this is one form of neural plasticity)
- Improves the capacity of your nervous system to navigate and manage stress.

Active Baseline
This is the practice of doing more with less. This class focuses on increasing the activity of healthy, functional neural pathways. While expanding and reinforcing healthy functional movement patterns, you will build and develop a toolbox that you will have at your disposal for life. This class begins with floor work to reconnect you with your body and deepen your awareness of healthy neuromotor patterns. Next is integrating learning with practical application, which may include bodyweight and/or weighted movement. This class helps deepen bodily- and self-awareness, improve strength and quality of movement, and reduce aches and pains.

Passive Baseline
Bridging the gap between body and mind, this class teaches you the skills and understanding you will practice and deepen during Mindfulness Practice. Focusing on learning how to meet and work with your body at its passive baseline, this is the practice of simply doing less. Cued into a position of fascial tension, this practice brings to your awareness to the protective activities of your body. As you relax and let go, you will allow your body's overactive, dysregulated neural activity to gently volume down. This class helps deepen bodily and self-awareness, calm your nervous system, improve your freedom of movement, and decrease stress and anxiety.

Mindfulness Practice (see Passive Baseline class)
This guided class allows you to practice and deepen your self-awareness using the tools and techniques learned during Baseline classes. The Functional Emotional Movement (FEM) approach to body-based mindfulness practice tensions your neurofascial system in the direction of functional improvement. While releasing the tensions of your body, this method simultaneously stimulates your vagus nerve, the keeper of your emotional and experiential history, providing an opportunity for deep healing on many levels. This class helps deepen body- and self-awareness, create space for emotional and spiritual healing and transformation, decrease pain, and improve freedom of movement.

Chakra Mindfulness
This practice is all about reawakening the energetic superhighway that runs up and down your spine. While putting into practice the functional pattern of the spine and activation of your extensor neural pathways, you will be encouraged to slow down and "find the flow." This class focuses on deep energetic and self-awareness and the journey of spiritual awakening.
We acknowledge, with great honor and respect, that we draw upon the ancient wisdom of Hinduism and Buddhism as guides and teachers in the practice of self-embodiment and self-awareness. According to these philosophies, the body has seven energy centers, or chakras, starting at the base of the spine and ascending to the crown. This core insight is central to our Chakra class.
